Frosty Soda

We got the snow!, lots of it and there's more on the way.  Soda's a big fan of the white stuff, I think there's some polar bear in his lineage.

December Diptychs and Red Fire Hydrants

Looking forward to some white stuff.  Christmas needs snow to fully achieve effect.  This time of year the dingy, sparse landscape needs the white blanket to put it to bed for the next  few months.

In regards to my last post, I finally gave in to those inner voices-  new lens.  I think this one will live on my camera forever, I'll never need another lens again…ever...

November Grey

In my last blog post I expounded on the beautiful light that you only get in the fall.  Well, that was October and now we're 7 days into November - the month of grey, the month where my my photography input starts to dwindle.
Photo hibernation always happens every winter, I need to make a considered effort to prevent that.

Perhaps a new lens?
I wan't that Fuji XF 23mm f/1.4 real bad...

Here's some November Grey from inside the house.

Fall Light

Spring, summer, winter- none of those seasons produce the magical luminance that you get this time of year.

Rebecca Lily

Thought I'd enter a photo contest, something I've never done before but what the heck.

Rebecca Lily's a talented photographer living in Ireland. Along with her fine photography she also produces and sells some really fine presets that can be used in both Photoshop and Lightroom.
She's hosting a photo contest with "Storytelling" as a theme.  The entry must be post processed using one of her presets (only fair) and if you don't happen to own any she will email you 5 Lightroom presets for free to use. (How cool is that).

I've always been fond of this image. This was taken the morning after a violent nor' easter ripped along the Outer Banks of North Carolina the previous night.

Wish me luck!

Vampire Weekend

A weekend jaunt to New York City.  Saw a favourite band play over in Brooklyn and strolled for hours through lower Manhattan.

Toronto's Buskerfest

I was in downtown Toronto helping a friend shop for a camera.  The annual Buskerfest happened to be going on.  It's too bad they only set one day aside for this creative outpouring. Everyday there should be huge, oversized puppets dancing down our major downtown streets.

Canadian National Exhibition

My yearly visit to the "EX".  I go down with the intention of honing my street photography skills, the CNE is a great place for that. Tons of people everywhere, all shapes and sizes, kids running around laughing and crying, all that you'd expect at a huge carnival.  It's actually a little overwhelming and that's the problem.  It's too much and I'm too inexperienced.  There's so much going on it's hard to focus- for both my brain and my camera.  Street photography is extremely hard. To capture that decisive moment, uncluttered, well composed, a strong narrative and yeah, in focus as well.
There are no "people" shots of my trip to the EX this year, I'm working on it, I fared better last year.  For now I give you a few artsy postcard shots of structures, inanimate objects and things that don't move or run away.

Godfrey Classic

The annual golf gathering of the Godfrey clan at the cottage, except no one really wants to bother with the golf when there's so much of a lazy, summer weekend to enjoy.
